CCTA is a worldwide series of readings and performances of short climate change plays presented biennially to coincide with the United Nations COP meetings. The programme also features a zero-waste, anti-fast-fashion-inspired performance art promenade piece utilising litter found on our campus. In our commitment to our creative work, we have been inspired by the School Strikes for Climate, Extinction Rebellion and similar groups. We are adding our creative voices to their courageous action, to inspire through arts, performance, and provocative street theatre. Together we are a global wave of change on many fronts. As well as being a creative intervention, our event takes practical action by delivering on measurable targets of reducing, reusing, recycling and repairing to reduce our waste and carbon footprint wherever possible. Anything remaining in our calculations we are offsetting with native tree plantings come to our events and you could get a free kawakawa seedling! December 31, by RealLifeArtist. It has been a tough year for many communities around the world: politically, environmentally, economically, socially. This can only be a good thing. Or, rather, I mostly read and begrudgingly make time for other things, which I admit are important. As has been my practise for the last few years, I tracked my reading this year. Below is my record for in the form of a table.

And all the more reason for artists and scientists to become bedfellows. The play is part of a long-term project titled The Arctic Cycle.

A series of eight plays that look at the social and environmental changes taking place in the eight countries of the Arctic, The Arctic Cycle seeks to 1 bring attention to the changes happening in the Arctic and the impact those changes are having on local communities; 2 encourage international and multidisciplinary collaboration across Arctic countries, and; 3 translate scientific data into personal stories. This week on HowlRound, we continue our exploration of Theatre in the Age of Climate Change with more urgency than ever. With the looming eradication of climate science data from US government websites and the appointment of Scott Pruitt as head of the Environmental Protection Agency, Trump has indicated in no uncertain terms that the health of the planet and its inhabitants are of no concern to him.

As theatre artists, how do we respond? NYU professor Una Chaudhuri writes about a group of theatre makers and educators who have committed to looking at the world through a climate lens in the hope of acquiring new wisdom. Trump Nation, however, only intensifies our post-national impulse; its real source, dating from well before the last election, is the fact that the most pressing political issue of our times crosses all national boundaries.

The accelerating symptoms of ecological devastation and climate chaos are global, planetary—post-national.
